Recently I upgraded to Parallels 3.0, Build 5608. The installation went fine and I reinstalled the tools under Windows as recommended. Since this was the Windows recommendation, I also did this under Fedora Core 7. Note: I was not having any problems prior, even after the upgrade with the Windows recommendation.

    Now I have several problems:

    1. Immediately after installation, the dynamic GUI resolution did not seem to work. Full screen mode eventually worked but when trying to enter single window mode I can not resize the window. (it is off the end of the display)

    2. When the System Halts, the VM does not recognize it. The VM must be reset to restart the OS.

As mentioned above, this is FC7.

    Did you install Parallels Tools?

I guess my message was not clear

Parallels Tools was installed and working with FC7 prior to the 5608 upgrade.

After the upgrade I "reinstalled" the Parallels Tools under FC7. After the reinstall I have had these problems.

My assumption was that the Linux OS would need the tools reinstalled since it was required for Windows.

    TIA

How do you install the tools from this older Parallels version while running the 5608 version?

Several users met the problem, with this tools so, please backup Vm first, than use this tools

I've never gotten *any* Linux to properly shut down. I always have to reset the VM. Are you saying this should actually work? Does something need to be changed on the Linux side to make it work?

John, you appear to always reply at the top level as opposed to replying to specific posts. Then, since you haven't quoted any text, it's impossible for me to tell if you are replying to my question. I will assume that you are given the context of your post. If you weren't asking me for more info, well here it is anyway. :)

What versions of what? I currently have VMs for Fedora 8,9 CentOS 5 and Ubuntu Feisty. I am using Parallels Desktop 3.0 build 5608, which appears to be the latest. None of those guest OSes will automatically poweroff the way Windows does. They report "system halted" and sit at the console screen. I then have to hit the stop button in the Parallels window.

In the past, this also has never worked for me with Fedora Core 5,6,7, CentOS 5, or Ubuntu d,e. Those were all run against earlier versions of Parallels.

We increased priority for all Linux problems, but I cannot say especially for this one.
Tools, and OS supported is the most priority, but I suppose as this is just acpi call it should be also fixed

John, I tried to install the older VM tools but this didn't seem to work.

    This is what I did:
    1. Download the uncompress the Linux_vmtools.iso
    2. Copy the ISO the the FC7 VM
    3. As "root" run the Parallels tools installer

Do I need to run the uninstall first? This is very frustrating! Everything was working fine until the last release where you required the Windows tools to be reinstalled.

    TIA

    Now it is working....?

Not sure what has happened. While the VM was starting I switched to single window mode. The window appeared in a size and locate where resizing was possible. After logging in I am able to resize the window and X-windows dynamically resizes.

    Is the key restarting twice?

What other tests could I perform to make sure everything is fine?

The dynamic video resize is working but it does not recognize with the VM has halted. You still need to Stop or Reset the VM to continue. This did work in the past.

This is not related to OS, it is related to kernel version

It previously worked under FC7. I have not updated the kernel.
