Every so often my guest OS session hangs my virtual machine. At the times it happens I am running some apps that are continually downloading real time stock data for a list of stock symbols. The problem starts when I click a running app icon on the task bar. I am able to launch the Windows Task Manager and find, without fail, that the explorer.exe process is consuming CPU cycles like crazy - CPU usage > 90%. As a consequence the operation of currently running apps come to a screeching halt; the task scheduler is practically allocating all CPU cycles to explorer.exe and not letting the running apps in.

When I kill the process things return to normal except now I lost the task bar, start menu, Windows explorer, etc. When launch explorer again the Guest OS is again operating as it should. Note I am not shutting down the VM or Parallels. So my question is a very simple one - what is going on? It gets very annoying when this happens.

My operating environment is MAC OS Ver 10.6.2, Parallels build 5.0.9220 and Windows Ver 6.1 (Win 7 Ultimate) all running in a MacBook Pro.

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Hi Mike,

Th help me studying the problem please provide me with the details.

    1. Does it happens if you activate any application?
    2. Does it happens if you do not run your stock application?

    Thank you,
    Alexander
