Problem with document association with Leopard, Parallels 3.0, and Win XP install

Problem with document association with Leopard, PD 3.0 (5582), and Win XP install

I have had 2 programs that when I installed them in windows do not assign the file association to their respective application. I have installed these programs dozens of times on Windows PCs and not had this problem. Therefore I believe it is a parallels problem. I have set up Parallels and Windows XP on 3 different Mac's with leopard, one a total fresh install, one an upgrade to Leopard install and one existing Leopard install and have the exact same problem. Namely Microsoft Office 2003 will not associate Excel documents with the Excel application. The other 2003 office applications associations worked just fine. I also installed another application last night and it did not set the application's association with it's document.

When I double click on the un-associated document in question and choose to select an application to open it with, the application does not show up in the list. I have to browse for the application in the Program Files folder.

Also, I had this problem when I installed adobe reader.

Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone have a fix?
