I think I've successfully moved a Virtual PC installation to my Mac Book using Build 3094 Beta 2. However, I can't seem to get Parallels Tools installed. Everytime the Installshield wizard runs, it terminates with a panel titled "Feature transfer error" and the following details: Feature: Disk <1> Component: <Disk1>Disk1 Files (1) File: C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\ Error: The filename, directing name, or volume lable syntax is incorrect. Any suggestions on how to proceed? Thanks// Chris Freeborn
Possibly a similar problem as CBFreeborn's When the Tools installation reaches "Installing Drag-and-Drop...", an error window appears like so: Window Title: feature transfer error Feature : Drag-and-Drop Component: Drag an Drop for Win 2000 File: C:\Program Files\Parallels\Parallels Tools\Plug-ins Error: The filename, directory and or volume label syntax is incorrect. After clicking OK, the installation simply disappeared. Also, I am getting a Found New Hardware Wizard on each reboot. the device in question being "Video Controller (VGA compatible)". I haven't gone through with the installation from a list of four Parallels drivers provided- scared off by MS terror-inducing messages. When rebooting, no Parallels Tools services (mouse and network) are working. (MBP 17"; XP; happy parallels DT for Mac customer for months).
Problem solved. Somehow, there was a FILE (not folder) called C:\Program Files\Parallels\Parallels Tools\Plug-ins After renaming the Parallels folder tree to hide it, the installation went fine.
I've tried renaming the file and I'm consistently failing with the same error (reported earlier in this thread) - up to and including RC 3120. Anybody have any suggestions on how to recover from this error condition? Thanks// Chris
Still having Installshield problem with RC2 (Build 3150) I'm still having problems with Installshield falling over when attempting to install Parallels Tools. I get a similar Installshield error message when attempting to update Garmin USB drivers. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get around or solve this problem with Installshield? Thanks// Chris
The method above worked for me. Just rename the C:\Parallels folder to something else (like C:\trashParallels) and reinstall the tools. Works like a charm.
Still having problems with Build 3186 Once again, I can't get the Tools to install with new Build 3186. I tried the renaming workaround and it still didn't work. I've attached a snapshot of the Windows desktop showing the installation and error panels. I'd appreciate ANY advice on how to get past this problem. Thanks// Chris
