I just upgraded to P6 yesterday, the very latest version installed over the network (6.0.11828). I am on latest mac version (10.6.5). A preexisting Windows 2000 is working just fine. I downloaded Kubuntu10.10, and attempted to install it. I selected the iso file, but Parallels said it couldn't determine what was on it. I selected Ubuntu and said continue. I then get a light blue small window showing "Kubuntu 10.10". The window then expands, I get a Kubuntu cursor, the cursor moves around in the window, but the window stays black. Its stays black forever.

I force reset the VM twice, it tries to boot, but hangs on "Trying to Boot from SATA Drive 1 ..."

PS: real noobie with both Linux and Parallels...

    Solved

So, I tried a few other things but no luck. Finally, I thought - maybe I just need to let it run longer. So I did the install, got a black screen as usual, but just walked away. When I came back an hour later there was Ubuntu asking me for a name and password!

I think this is a defect in Parallels - that it gives you no indication whatsever that the installation is running in the background - but hope that my experience and this "solution" (to let it run) helps out some other poor soul.
