I have a MacBook Pro running Parallels 13. I have a Brother 2270DW printer attached to my network, and the Windows 10 VM is sharing this printer. I am able to print to the printer from Windows but when I look at the printer properties in Windows it is listed as HP Color LaserJet 2820 AiO PS Class Driver, x64, Type 4 - User Mode. I was trying to change the Windows driver to be the correct Brother driver for this printer but I am having problems getting this to work. My 2270DW printer wasn't listed in the set of options for drivers installed in Windows, but I was able to download and install another driver that is listed in the set of choices for a new driver. However, when I install this driver it doesn't work - i.e. nothing is printed. The Brother driver is shown as Brother HL-2270DW series, x64, Type 3 - User Mode.

I'm not sure what I am doing wrong and would appreciate instructions on how to get the correct Brother printer driver installed on the VM. Thanks.

  2. Hi rvmeush. By default Parallels Desktop will install the virtual driver for the printer which will be listed as 'HP Color LaserJet' in the device manager and most of the basic printers will work with this driver itself. You can try to install the native printer drivers only if the printer is not working properly with this virtual driver.

  3. To configure the network printer directly in the virtual machine, please shut down the virtual machine by selecting Actions (from the Mac menu bar) -> Shut down. Open the configuration Window -> Hardware -> Network and set the source to Default Adapter. Then start the virtual machine and install the native printer drivers which will detect the printer from the network. Then follow the on-screen instructions to configure it.
