Hey, I'm a first time Parallels user and have everything working pretty smoothly, exept for moving windows around. Other things involving graphics seem slow as well, such as slideshows. I first installed Bootcamp with Windows XP, and set that up perfectly. I installed Parallels afterwards, and it is using my Bootcamp partition. Parallels Toolset is also installed (I even reinstalled it). I have a MacBook Pro with an Ati x1600 videocard ad 1,5 GB of RAM. Windows is supersmooth in Bootcamp, but not in Parallels. I dedicated 768 MB Ram to Parallels. Any ideas?
I'm having the same problem. The overall performance of windows is fine, but the GUI seems to be pretty laggy, especially when compared to booting straight into windows via bootcamp. Is there any advanced video card or graphics performance options? Maybe a way to allocate video card memory to parallells? I'm not talking 3d, just a way to make the gui faster. I've already tweaked windows down the the barebones, so its definitely a parallels issue. Thanks!
Also, in windows it says I'm using the 'Parallels video driver' with 16mb of ram. Is it possible to change that to 32mb or even 64mb? I'm on build 3188. Thank you! *EDIT* I was able to change the adapter to 32mb, but it didn't seem to help. The overall video performance is still pretty sluggish. Any other ideas?
vandaahl, mcpasta: Some GUI slowness can be expected when compared to running in bootcamp. Some thoughts: (1) Is it still sluggish if you move to full screen mode? For me Outlook's refresh is slow when running coherance or in the OS Window, but performs fine in full screen. (2) How much RAM do you have allocated to the VM. I don't expect this to make a huge diff, but if you are running 2G total, then up your allocation to 756MB. Even if it doesn't improve your issue I'd suspect the VM to run a little better.
3150? Build 3150? That one wasn't a commercial build. The current build for the version 2.5 is 3188. Might want to update first then recheck your issue.
