When editing Microsoft Word for Mac 2011 documents on my Mac, using common keyboard shortcuts like Command-B and Command-I causes Parallels Desktop 10 to launch one of my virtual machines and start its version of Word.

This bad behavior began with Parallels Desktop 10 (I don't recall this occurring with PD 9, 8, 7, etc.). This is a very frustrating productivity waster.

How can I stop this from happening?

    Thanks in advance. ...pt

    Hi Philip,
Please go to the Parallels Desktop menu > Preferences > Shortcuts tab > System Shortcuts > set 'Send System Shortcuts' option to 'never' > shut down Virtual machine. Now try to use the keyboard shortcuts and let us know how does work.

Changing the Send System Shortcuts option to Never did not help. When I copy or paste (using either the keyboard shortcuts - or the menu commands) from various Office for Mac 2011 applications, Parallels Desktop 10 launches and starts one of my virtual machines.

If I am quick enough, I can quit Parallels Desktop and shut down the virtual machine before the full start up process completes. But besides the wasted time and effort, I am concerned about corrupting a virtual machine by interrupting its start up. Of course, once the time stamp changes due to the virtual machine start up, then Time Machine also wastes extra time backing up the 30-40 GB file, too. Very frustrating.

This problem seems to have stopped after installing the since-released Parallels Desktop 10.1.0 update.
I have not yet tried re-enabling any of the settings (such as, Send System Shortcuts) that I disabled while fighting this bug.

I am having the same problem since installing Yosemite. It had worked and not it has stopped. This is highly annoying.
