I am wondering if anyone has any information on how PD 5.0 works with turbo Boost and hyper-threading. 1: If I have a quad core machine, and I dedicate 2 cores to the VM and 2 to the host, have nothing else running on the host and only a single app running on the VM, will this be a 2 cores in use condition and Turbo Boost will bump up the clock for the active cores? 2: Same basic config above, will the VM see four CPUs, two cores and two Hyper-threading virtual cores? Or does hyper-threading not translate to the VM and the VM only sees the real cores? I am looking at getting a 27" iMac, but only if my VMs are going to see the extra performance. I need to milk my VM for all I can when using Revit. Thanks for any info. Gordon
I just got the 27" i7 with 8GB on April 9th. It is also my first mac. I'm running PD5 with win7 ultimate 32bit as the guest and I have 2 cores and 3Gb ram assigned to the guest. Win7 sees 2cores and not 2+(2 virtual). Although it is hard for me to be objective because it is my first mac and my first time using virtualization so I have nothing else to compare it to, it is most definitely amazingly fast! I was shocked at how flawless watching HD video in the guest os is. and. I was also just about to mention that even webpages in firefox and chrome load faster than I've ever seen on any kind of computer....but I should mention that I am also using the ocz vertex turbo SSD so that may have alot to do with my speed.
