Parallels Workstation ist unable to exclusively lock /dev/ttyS0

Discussion in 'Installation and Configuration in Windows and Linux' started by Parallels User, Jun 28, 2007.

  1. Hi forum,

I'm using Paralles Workstation on Ubuntu 7.04 and tried to use a serial port in the virtual machine. Unfortunately Parallels complains when I start a virtual machine:

"Serial port 1 disabled becaues Parallels Workstation is unable to exclusively lock the port to this virtual machine."

I tried /dev/ttyS0 and /dev/ttyUSB0 (both are existing and working serial ports) but get the same error message.

Any idea how to get it work?

    Thanks,
    Hermann

    Forum,

I'm having this problem too, with both Fedora and Ubuntu. I've tried everything including disabling services, changing device permissions, etc. I do have a modem on the port and can talk to it through minicom using /dev/ttyS0. What did I miss? Please assist.

    Thanks,
    drr

    I solved it myself!

YES! It works just great with Vmware. Anybody want to buy a Parallels license, cheap? Write to [email protected]

    I'm outta here.
