I'm trying to do the quick desktop switch between OS X and Windows XP like in the YouTube videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uf5EArv4Lck using Virtue Desktops. However, once Parallels captures my mouse cursor, the hotkey combination to change desktop stops working and I can't switch virtual desktops unless I unlock the mouse cursor. Instead, the Windows recognizes hotkey combination (Ctrl Shift <arrow key>) as End or Home/Pageup/down. I'd like to stay in full screen mode in Windows and switch back and forth. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks in advance.
Sounds like you have installed Parallels Tools in your Windows XP. If you had there would be no need to release keyboard & mouse. Install Parallels Tools and all will be good.
The problem is, Parallels Tools is installed. Parallels just keeps recognizing the ctrl-shift-arrow as a windows hotkey, rather than a mac os x hotkey.
FWIW, the guy at NotebookReview had the same problem: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2990 "After doing this you simply navigate to your Windows XP desktop and launch Parallels then enter full screen, you now have 2 virtual desktops with one as OS X and the other as XP. I've personally come across a few glitches whilst running these two programs together but it's worth noting that they're not final. One of the biggest gripes I have is that the hotkey for switching between desktops works fine until Parallels has captured your keyboard and mouse, then it ceases to work." If you look at his youtube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uf5EArv4Lck), near the end he shows that you can't switch desktops using the hotkey unless he unlocks the mouse cursor (ctrl-alt)
It worked perfectly until 2.1, but with the new beta the hotkeys for VirtueDesktop don't work anymore :-( Now Windows catches the keys. (and yes, i installed the latest Parallels Tools!) So it really worked some time ago. I hope Parallels will fix it (again).
Thanks for the reply, bibo. Yeah... it seemed to happen after I installed the new beta... What's the proper way to uninstall and reinstall Parallels? I've tried to revert back to an older version but it doesn't seem to solve the problem.
Universal Access is enabled... If you uncheck the "Enable access for assistive devices" under Universal Access in your system preferences, your hotkeys will function again under Parallels in full screen. I'm hoping they resolve this in future versions but I'm afraid we're stuck with this "functionality." It means I can't use Textpander and other apps of the like while using Parallels in full screen mode. Hope this Helps
