I don't know if these are related, so posting together with as much detail as I know to give right now....

Upgraded to Version 3. It upgraded my XP vm with no problems that I've noticed so far. However, when it converted my Vista vm I was confronted with a message box in Vista.

Vista is trying to update a device driver for "Other PCI Bridge Device." My understanding is that Parallels tools would normally take care of that. I tried navigating to the Parallels tools install folder under program files, but it cannot find the driver there.

I then tried to reinstall parallels tools using the action menu, but noticed it is saying "cancel parallels tools installation." I cancelled and re-tried several times to reinstall the tools, but nothing appears to happen. I also rebooted the vm. Same error messages and it is stuck doing the parallels tools install according to the action menu, but I never see anything in Vista to indicate it is making any progress.

I then tried to uninstall parallels tools from the add/remove programs control panel. But it gives me the following message: "Parallels tools require that your Windows is running under Virtual Machine. The installation will be stopped." I would expect that message if I were in a bootcamp image, but that is not the case here. I am inside the vm running on a macbook 2Ghz Core2 Duo in OSX. My thinking was to uninstall tools and then try the install again to see if it worked.

I also moved the tools files in the program files folder to another location temporarily to see if it would not find them and then magically try to reinstall. Didn't work.

So I need parallels tools to fix the device issue, but it won't let me install it. It won't let me uninstall the version that is on there. My thinking is that the parallels tools currently on the VM is the old one from the previous version of PD.

Additionally, coherence and all the other features provided by the parallels tools install don't work either. Hate Vista in the first place, but its even worse in a tiny little window with no coherence.

Thanks for your patience. I'm at the end of mine...

Am having the same problem - on a client's machine running Vista - with regard to Parallels Tools. It only says "cancel Parallels Tools installation". When I do cancel and restart the Parallels Tools, it again never finishes...and the menu continues to say "cancel Parallels Tools installation."

Just figured out the problem that prevented Parallels Tools from running. I went into "Security" and disabled Firewall and Defender (anti spyware). And then Parallels Tools ran successfully. Hope this helps!

Update: I also tried booting into safe mode with networking. All of the same symptoms of my problem were still there.

bgarst, I disabled Firewall, Defender, and AVG and no luck. Must have a different problem...
