Parallel tools issues I have been having a similar problem with Parallel Tools both under the 3186 and now 3188 releases. First it was coming up each time asking to install Tools, but if you answered yes and tried to install, a DOS based screen would briefly flash, too quick to read, but started with something like "bad pool header". If I restart and ignore the message to install Tools the program runs OK but I obviously don't have the latest matching version of Tools now installed. I tried disconnecting/reconnecting all variations of the CD/DVD drive but that has not helped. I then uninstalled and reinstalled Parallels using the Unistall Parallels Desktop program that is part of the 3188 release. That got me to the point where it would boot up OK but now there is no Parallel Tools installed whatsoever! So... I tried again running the Install Tools program but still no luck. Does anyone have a sure fire documented way of fully removing and re-installing Parallel Tools? This is driving me nuts.
parallels tools (3188) fix I was finally able to repair my issues with Parallel tools and managed to get a screen shot of the DOS messages that kept cycling by every time I tried to reinstall Tools and re-boot. The fix for me was to boot into Safe Mode on Windows XP which finally allowed me to get the Parallel Tools installation to work. After rebooting, I had to re-select the CD-DVD drive as published on previous suggestions to this issue and then all finally was back to normal. I got Coherence mode back and the latest Tools was running in combo with the 3188 release. Rather than filtering through all the messages on these forums though, there needs to be some common tech support notes that address these issues that are getting repeated over and over....
What I outlined in the last section of this thread has always worked for me, and many others: http://forum.parallels.com/thread10384.html
