This may help:
One of Parallels techs responded on another thread that the tools must be deleted and reinstalled after an upgrade because they do not match (don't know why).
The procedure he gave was to start windows in safe mode, and use control panel to un-install the tools. Then restart windows, and reinstall the tools. Several posters who had the black screen did do, and it solved their problem. Apparently uninstalling in the safe mode is critical.
