I'm using Parallels for Linux. I'd LIKE to use it for winXP, but no luck there It just won't install on XP. Anyhow, so it's fast enough (not as fast as it should be though) for the first 10 minutes or so. After a few minutes it becomes impossibly slow, so slow the menus take about 2 minutes to draw! It's impossible to even shut down and restart from within Linux as I'd need to take 1 hour to pull up the menus, click restart on the new window. So I just have to stop the VM from Parallels, before restarting. It's really disapointing cos I hear so many good things about Parallel's speed For the record, I have a MacBookPro, 2GB of RAM! 2ghz, and Parallels I've given 768MB. Why does it slow down after a while? I seem to notice that just switchjing to other apps (the Finder), and then back, slows Parallels down ridiculously. Is that right???? Why the hell would swithcing to the finder slow parallels down? I didn't open any new apps, just switch. Someone help me make Parallels fast no matter what apps I switch to and back from. Please, it's getting ridiculous. I get about 10 minutes of use before I must force-restart my parallels which can't be any good for the machine can it?
Also....... will PD tweaker help me? http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20060622090404212 I feel doubtful, cos they mentioned that Parallels beta added some new feature inbuilt to do this. And I tried this feature, but it only made parallels slower. Maybe PD Tweaker did the job properly though and he didn't actually test the new feature out? Or maybe he is just wrong. No idea...
Have you had a look in the OS X Activity Monitor to see what's using up CPU time when Parallels is running slowly? Also, I wonder if the fact that you can't install XP indicates that there's something sick in your Parallels installation?
Same problem here. I installed Windows 2000. I can't find the reason why it becomes slow. CPU and RAM seem Okay under Windows and MacOS X. Restarting Windows solves the problem for a while. No need to restart Parallels. Thierry Mac Mini 1.6 GHz 2 GB RAM, 10.4.8, Parallels Desktop for Mac RC2 build 1922
