I can't believe I am about to suggest this, but I think Parallels is moderating posts on this forum. Yesterday, I started a thread about me rolling back to 2.5 from 3.0. Others joined in with their experiences also.

Today, I can't find the thread. Not in this forum and not even if I use to member list to search for all of my posts.

Has anyone seen this before? Did parallels remove the post because it was critical of their products?

They probably deleted your post because the latest update makes it mostly irrelevant because it fixes most of the problems that would create a need to downgrade.

Frankly, that makes no sense at all. They can't just remove posts if they feel like there isn't an issue.

Sure they can! They own this BBS and can do anything they want with it, as long as it is legal.

This is their support forum, so if they feel that someone is recommending something that shouldn't be done, then they can remove the post(s). You may not consider this right or fair, but thats the way forums work. I do however recommend that you download and try the update, it will most likely fix any problems you had with the 3.0 release that had forced you to downgrade.

Legally, yes you're right, they can do whatever they want. But removing posts because it may contain something they don't like goes against the spirit of support forum. By that logic, there would never be any posts in the forums. Just messages saying "Everyting's A OK!"

    Brkich:
I haven't seen one piece of documentation saying what was fixed in that release. Frankly, i'm getting a little tired of playing musical releases. That was the point of my original post.

That may be the way this forum works, but from what I can tell, I didn't violate any of the rules of this forums. I didn't post porn, illegal content or use foul language. I simply echoed something that many, many other users have said on this very forum. I can assure you, as a company that sells products, Parallels does not want to be seen as censoring their users. If the last few years have taught use anything, it's that a company can should participate in the discussion with its users, not try to control it.

I was one of the posters in the censored thread from yesterday. I wrote up my process and experience in rolling back to 2.5 from 3.0. I do find it distressing that the thread was removed. It's not really a secret that there have been problems with 3.0, so I don't know why providing experiences on rolling back to a stable version would be removed.

I have checked out the link that brkirch provided and do indeed see a new build available. However, I cannot find any information about this build or what it contains. Based on my previous 3.0 experience, I am not going to download and re-install 3.0 until information is available on the stability and what features/bugfixes are in the new release.

Until then, I'll stick with 2.5.

Since you asked, here's the list:
As I said, they probably saw your post as simply being too close to the update and didn't want users encouraged go through the downgrade process when most of the issues have been fixed. I have seen plenty of posts about downgrading before yours that weren't deleted. Try this update and if you continue to have issues then you can repost your thread and if that is removed then you can post about there being a problem. Otherwise it seems like the decision to remove the thread was to protect users from bad advise, not to censor us.

Thanks for the list brkirch. Was this in a readme file within the download?

It should be in a file called "Release Notes.pdf" in the same folder as Parallels Desktop after you install the update.

Why could that not have been done with a simple reply in that thread? They could have posted the new build number and asked me or Shepherdboy to give that one a shot and report our experiences back.

I have been a huge promoter of Parallels. I have a section on my blog with Performance Tips, useful tricks, and other such information dating back to their beta days. ( http://blog.1530technologies.com/parallels/index.html )

With a user base already upset and frustrated with Parallels silence to the problems people have been having with 3.0, to do something like remove a post seems like it would only re-enforce the frustration of not being heard.

I understand your frustration, but what should be done at this point? Try the update, if it doesn't fix your issues you can continue to seek an answer as to why your thread was deleted and an apology or whatever it is you are looking for. Otherwise this just isn't going to go anywhere because the issue that your thread was discussing has been fixed, and the thread's existence would only lead people to have concern about a problem that no longer exists (not everyone would bother to even read the thread, so they would not know the issue is resolved).

    Two things:

1 ) No specific issues were discussed in the original post, so to say they were fixed implies some sort of faith that, frankly, I don't have in Parallels any more.

2 ) I don't want to try the update. Frankly, I'm tired of Parallels ( as a company ) at this point and am going over to Fusion.

Build 4560 didn't fix the DirectX issues I had made threads about and I can't find my threads, however that doesn't mean they are not burried someone deep past others posts since tons of people create complaint posts since it seems the only place to get any response is on the boards, and thats by members, not really parallels developers.

Searching for a thread & finding a different one is all well & good. However, what happened to gcaprio's original thread?

Is this some sort of bait & switch? I'm interested in what issues they were having & how the Parallels Team decided to resolve it.

To say that the new release fixes all problems & therefore all previous posts having those problems can be removed is a bit ridiculous... Not everyone checks the Parallels forums/site every day looking for updates or even uses the in-app updater. Not to mention short-sighted, as I assume from the top couple of posts, people are still having problems w/ the latest build & knowing the process to downgrade is still useful. To have someone spend their time and write out a process for everyone to see is good, but I wonder if that user will bother to spend their time helping everyone out again, knowing that it might just be indiscriminately erased.

I suppose the fallback for all of this is you can say, "This forum is not accessible via the main site, so no 'official' support is given" or whatever. However, building a great product is no excuse for poor support nor marketing techniques that contradict customer support.

    Ungenious, gcaprio,

I greatly apologize for what happen with this thread. We do internal investigation to find out why this happened and who from moderators did this. Moderators are only permitted to remove spam/advertising messages and moderate rude/improper language. They are not permitted to remove any other topics. I apologize again and will do my best to avoid such situations in the future.
