I have tried setting my default web browser in Windows 7 from Google Chrome back to IE9. (Yeah I know, a questionable decision in and of itself.) But for some reason, Parallels keeps changing it back to Chrome roughly an hour or so later without *any* intervention on my part. At first I wasn't sure what was changing it back and I thought perhaps Chrome was "stealing" the choice during one of its scheduled updates. But I used SysInternals Process Monitor to watch the registry and left the machine alone all weekend. Sure enough it shows that the prl_cc.exe (Parallels Control Center) process wrote to the shell associations for http and ftp and now Chrome is the default browser again. Any idea why this is happening and how to make it stop? I have tried rebooting the guest OS after setting the default back to IE9 and while the IE9 default sticks for a while, eventually prl_cc overwrites it again.
We have found the bug in Parallels Tools. It will be fixed in the nearest update. Sorry for the inconvenience. Workaround is to move SharedIntApp.dll out of the C:\Program Files\Parallels\Parallels Tools\Plugins
Thanks for the quick confirmation. I was also able to work around it temporarily by denying write permissions to those keys from my user account. I might even start doing that on all my machines to keep other apps from messing with those preferences.
Was this ever fixed? I am using Parallels from a download from a couple of days ago and I am still seeing this problem.
