    Hello,

Is the Parallels Internet Security by Kaspersky (anti-virus protection) really worth it for someone who uses Parallels Desktop for Mac maybe one hour a week? Here is the rest of the story...

My original Parallels Internet Security subscription just expired and I was rather irritated to see that a renewal was $39. The sole reason I have Parallels Desktop is for a few Windows only programs and web sites that I am forced to use. As long as all of these Internet connections are secure and with reputable sources, as well as no unauthorized attachments are opened up in Windows, doesn't that reduce the odds of a virus or other malicious attack to the point of negating an anti-virus protection subscription? For what it is worth, I do keep current Intego's VirusBarrier for the entire computer (and the only alert in eight years has been for an occasional stray .exe file).

I have a similar situation. I have a virtual machine that I only use windows software. After initial configuration and installation, I archived the machine as a zip file. I unzip it, use it, then trash it. Next time I repeat the process. I save nothing on the virtual machine, so have nothing to loose by destroying it regularly. If it does become corrupted, which has never happened yet, I at least know that I can open a fresh copy which is ready to use.

I have also had the question about the security software. But since I use the machine in the way I do, I feel I am safe.
