I am running P9 under Mavericks 10.9 with windows 7. I am new to virtualization and am trying to grasp how it works. My questions ideal with how Parallels (windows) integrates with Mavericks. 1. If I have anti-virus software installed on the Mac, will the Windows side also be protected? Or must I also install AV under windows for the additional protection? 2. If I have Time Machine set up to backup the Parallels VM, does that also backup windows and related software? Or if I need to do a restore, would I need to reinstall Windows separately after TM restores the P9 VM? Thanks
Hello BGleason, Anti-Virus for Mac is separate and Anti-Virus of Windows is separate. If you would like to protect your Windows Virtual Machine, you need to have Anti-Virus for Windows installed separately. The Entire Windows Virtual Machine will be named as Windows. PVM and by default .PVM file will be located in : Mac HD/Users/Username/Documents/Parallels or Mac HD/Users/Shared/Parallels If you have set the time machine to backup your Virtual Machine it will back the entire Windows Operating System. To set the time machine backup to back up your Virtual Machine , please follow the steps given below : Go to VM Config ( http://kb.parallels.com/117287 ) -> switch to Security tab -> Time Machine : => Disable the option : Do not backup the Virtual Machine
Thanks, you were very helpful. One point of clarification, when time machine backs up windows, does that include all the software in installed as well?
