I have Ubuntu Dapper running in a virtual machine on Windows XP, but I've never been able to get either the microphone or the camera to work. Both are recognized but for some reason, Parallels reserves these functions to Windows......The sound itself works so I can play music and watch videos in the Linux virtual machine. I just can't use Skype or my webcam. For these I must revert to using Windows. Someone suggested I try the free VMWare Server as an alternative. This was worse. I didn't get either sound or microphone....and the Virtual Tools didn't load either. So much for VMWare. As for the Parallels Tools, it's annoying not having it, but not as annoying as not being able to use the webcam and microphone.
