HI, I just got Parallel working today (It took a while to make a boot disk from my old VPC OS pack) and have a need for a feature. When adding a serial port, three choices are displayed: "Use physical port", "Use an output file" and "Use a socket" however the first one (physical serial port) is greyed out. I use a USB-Serial adapter to create serial ports on my Mac, and I need to access them with Parallel. It would be nice to have that check box enabled! Perhaps this is on the roadmap, so please let me know if this is so. For reference, I tried to simply install the USB-Serial driver in Windows, however I cannot get Parallels to connect to the adapter. I either get a device is in use by another application error, or it connects to the device for a few seconds and looses it . I thought it might be because something in OS X is trying to use it, however removing the USB driver on the Mac side did not help. Instead it always gives me the device busy error. I know that USB support is incomplete so this may be a known issue. Otherwise, great start! Cheers, Roch
While "real" usb serial support might be useful, there is an alternative you might try. Another user posted this: http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=926&highlight=rs-232 which might help you out.
I already sent him an e-mail. Should have mentioned it here as well. I did on a similar post in the serail port thread in the OS X. Thanks! Roch
