I have just installed Ubuntu 14.04 on a late model 2012 iMac running Mac OS X 10.9.4 Mavericks using Parallels Desktop 9. When I go to the General tab to "Reclaim..." disk space there is never any space available. Even though Linux reports space not in use. Can someone over there look into this? I need to backup my Linux on a daily basis and right now the distribution is taking up over 25 gig of space, most of it is not being used. Linux reports: perry@ubuntu:~$ df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda1 62G 13G 47G 21% / none 4.0K 0 4.0K 0% /sys/fs/cgroup udev 2.0G 4.0K 2.0G 1% /dev tmpfs 395M 932K 395M 1% /run none 5.0M 0 5.0M 0% /run/lock none 2.0G 152K 2.0G 1% /run/shm none 100M 44K 100M 1% /run/user Home 233G 169G 64G 73% /media/psf/Home Volumes 233G 169G 64G 73% /media/psf/Volumes LaCie 932G 684G 249G 74% /media/psf/LaCie LaCie SSD 233G 169G 64G 73% /media/psf/LaCie SSD Virtual Disk 4.0G 1.9G 2.2G 48% /media/psf/Virtual Disk /dev/sr0 82M 82M 0 100% /media/perry/CDROM But the meter on the General tab indicates that it needs 23.4 GB. I have an earlier version of Linux installed (Ubuntu 12.04.4) and it's General tab reports 25.8 GB in use but 7.2 GB is reclaimable. perry@ubuntu:~$ df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda1 62G 18G 42G 30% / udev 2.0G 4.0K 2.0G 1% /dev tmpfs 395M 780K 395M 1% /run none 5.0M 0 5.0M 0% /run/lock none 2.0G 220K 2.0G 1% /run/shm Home 233G 170G 63G 73% /media/psf/Home Volumes 233G 170G 63G 73% /media/psf/Volumes LaCie 932G 684G 249G 74% /media/psf/LaCie LaCie SSD 233G 170G 63G 73% /media/psf/LaCie SSD Virtual Disk 4.0G 1.9G 2.2G 48% /media/psf/Virtual Disk /dev/sr0 79M 79M 0 100% /media/CDROM For some reason Parallels Desktop is not picking up on the actual free space on 14.04. Given that 14.04 is the latest version of Ubuntu I am not surprised that this little quirk exists. My question is, is there anyone over at Parallels that can address this issue as the additional space requirements is rather annoying.
