Okay - why would Parallels upgrade decided that I would want all my Mac Excel and Word documents to start opening up in Internet Explorer in a Windows VM instead of in Mac version of Office?

Kind of annoying, but not a major issue to reassociate the files using Get Info tab on the files, but this is annoying - Parallels changed all the icons as well.

Now all my XLS and DOC files have a generic Parallels icon. I have hundreds of files, and silly as it may seem, I'd like the proper icon on them.

Is there a quick way to change them in group back to the appropriate icon?

And when I install Parallels on another machine, how do I keep it from doing this again?

I only have one type of file I want to automatically open up a Parallels VM when I click it, and that would be Quicken files, everything else, leave me in OS X unless I open Parallels first.

It is really terrible. I've posted about this already

    Here

Best suggestion I can give you is set security level to high in your VMs. Remove all "Windows Application" folders associated with your VMs. You will have to go to XLS and DOC files in Mac and do right-click, open with, and check ALWAYS OPEN WITH...

That is the best fix so far. Parallels is dead quiet on this being a problem.

Turn the security setting in all your VMs to high, and you can use this script I developed to clear all Windows application associations. MarkHolbrook, you may want to run that script too, it will do a thorough search of your disks to make sure that every Windows application link is removed.
