I finally bit the bullet yesterday and paid my trusted Apple service provider to install Bootcamp and Parallels Desktop for Mac on my MacBook Pro (latest model), with a new copy of Windows XP Pro. He installed it so that Parallels uses the BootCamp partition, something like that. (I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about ... I'm a newbie...)

One of the main reasons I need Windows is because I was tired of hauling out my PC laptop (recent vintage Compaq, also running XP Pro) just to do my online banking at Chase.com. For some reason none of my Mac browsers was ever able to log on successfully, but every browser on my Compaq can, no sweat.

So of course the first web page I go to in Parallels is Chase.com ... but no joy! Not with IE 7 nor Firefox. Same symptom: I bring up the main page, log on, then it says "waiting for chase.com" for about 30 seconds with a white screen and a URL that has "logon=success" in it. Finally the status bar says "Done" but the page is completely empty.

I booted into Bootcamp, argh! Same problem! How can this be? I opened my Compaq next to the MacBookPro and went to the same page, logged on, and in a few seconds I was looking at my accounts page on chase.com.

The Compaq is using the same wireless connection to my Airport (which is bridged to my router/hub, connected to the DSL modem). How could Windows on a PC have no problem showing me a web page while Windows on a Mac -- both in Parallels and BootCamp -- not be able to?

Neither my PC nor my MBP has the Windows firewall enabled.

On the MacBook Pro while running in Windows I looked at Control Panels > Networking and it seems like it's running some sort of Parallels -flavored networking scheme. I'm not sure what this is about.

So far I'm able to see lots of other web pages while in Parallels and/or in Bootcamp. It's this one dang page that it's choking on. Please help with any advice! (other than switch banks ... I can't!)

    Okay......... That is strange....

Anything different about your Compaq? What kind of browser is it running?

I have been accessing Chase.com to do my online banking for several years now with OS 9 and OS X (currently 10.4.9) with no problem. I use Camino but I am fairly certain I have also used Safari and probably IE 5.2 before that.

Re Macs having no problem accessing Chase online ... yes so I've been told! And it used to work for me, too ... At some point after a software update a couple years ago it stopped working. I went back and forth with Chase about this, tried all sorts of browsers and network settings, nothing worked.

When I saw that my Compaq (running IE 6, then later, 7 or Firefox latest) had no problems with the same site using the same network my Macs were on, I figured it was easier just to haul it out the two or three times a month I needed to log onto chase online.

So that's why I can't figure out why Windows XP running in Parallels or booted into it w/Bootcamp is having the same problem.

I would dearly love to diagnose this and fix it once and for all. I'm able to log onto my WaMu account from the Macs (and Windows), why not Chase.

Spent about 45 minutes this morning adjusting IE 7's security settings (with chase.com as a trusted site) and that just got me a little farther, but not much.

A related issue ... today after I installed Adobe CS3 in Windows running Parallels, it couldn't activate over the net, I had to call. When I installed Adobe CS3 on the same Mac running under the Mac OS, it had no trouble authorizing over the net.

    ?

I'm not sure how to troubleshoot this. What should I be fiddling with in Parallels? I'm looking at the config window, it says "Network Adapter 1; Shared networking."

I don't think this is a Parallels problem. The first thing I would do is find out why you aren't able to log onto Chase from your Mac. For that, this is not the proper forum. Here are some suggestions:
