This might be an obscure post but I'm hoping someone might just have an idea. I am in Real Estate and there are applications that are Windows only. I decided to update my Powerbook G4 running Virtual PC to a new MacBookPro running Parallels for a much faster Windows environment. Everything seems to work great except syncing my GE SupraEkey usb cradle. The SupraEkey keypad is an infra-red device we use to access lock boxes on listed homes. The keypad must be updated each night on the usb cradle. It worked fine on the G4 but wont connect at all on the MacBookPro running Mac OS 10.4.9 and Parallels with Windows XP Professional. The cradle appears on the usb list. When checked the computer boots the devise ok. As soon as the sync process tries to initiate it looses contact with the cradle and the program freezes. A red X appears over the program icon at the lower right corner and an error window appears saying the cradle not found. I have tried everything to debug this problem including GE tech support. I am not running any virus protection or firewalls. I swapped for a new cradle. I downloaded the GE software and reinstalled (as opposed to the disk) Under services the process shows booted and active. Under hardware the usb cradle shows active. If it ran under Virtual PC ok you would think it would run under Parallels too. Thanks in advance for your consideration.
USB or Sync problems Am I the only Parallels user with a usb/sync problem? Has anyone else had a related issue that may be a key to figuring out this problem. I am counting on someone with any idea at all to please reply to this post. I am at a loss trying to debug this issue. Have not had a reply yet from Paralles support on this.
Thanks for the detail! Most people don't bother to give us any of that... Have you tried turning USB Auto-connect on? Also, have you tried using it in a BootCamp Partition? How about un-installing then re-installing Parallels tools?
Thanks for your reply. I have not tried Boot Camp as my disk copy of Windows XP pro is not SP2. I have tried VM Fusion with similar results. I have reloaded Paralles from the website and reloaded Parallel tools to no avail. Curiously Parallels sees the cradle as a found USB device. The MacBookPro also sees the cradle as a found USB device in OS 10.4.9 However, when the sync driver for the Supraekey is activated in Windows it looses the cradle and the software hangs up. Almost as if there was a virus protection program blocking the function of the sync driver. I had no problem using this cradle and software on my Powerbook G4 and Virtual PC. My guess it is probably driver related. I'm pretty savvy on the Mac OS but have no idea where to look in the Windows or Parallels environment.
