After months and months without updates, it seems that Parallells Workstation has been removed from Parallells website, at least from the from the front page. If you go to http://www.parallels.com/ it is only Mac software there now, also if you click on Products there are nothing but Mac software. So thank you Parallels, for screwing your paying customers.
I noticed this as well, but I wouldn't automatically assume that this has been discontinued. Googling for the product will still bring me to a page where I can purchase additional licenses. I too have been concerned over the lack of updates as I depend on using Parallels to run my business and have no immediate plans to change my hardware to Apple hardware just to be able to run my Windows VMs elsewhere. In case the OPs assumption turns out to be accurate, Parallels, if you kill it, please open source it. Your product is a great product, but hardly anyone I know knows about it unless I tell them. The better option would be to not let the product die but rather to find better ways to market it. Perhaps your more sophisticated user base is few, but have you considered marketing to the type of user who simply wants to make a live backup of their PC before doing a full reinstall of Windows? I have several clients who use Parallels for just that so that they do not have to hesitate to reinstall and worry about later being able to fire up the 'old system' to get something that they forgot to migrate or run an old program that they thought they wouldn't need anymore. It's great insurance!
Hi All, We have posted in the forum the official End of Sale and End of Life language regarding Parallels Workstation and Parallels Workstation Extreme. Yes, we are ending sales of our Parallels Workstation product lines in order to focus on some different market segments and products. What does it mean for you? * Parallels will no longer release patches or updates for these products; * Parallels Support will not be able to escalate the requests to the development team for patches/fixes which are not covered in existing version/build of the product. * If you have a personal Support Plan, please contact your Parallels sales representative or one of the Parallels offices. We will continue to have conversations in the forums on the products and common questions that we can answer.
Andrew, I give you credit for at least making this post here, but the truth is that I don't think Parallels released any patches or updates in the last year, nor do I think any requests were ever escalated. It certainly didn't feel like it. As far as I could tell, Parallels treated this product as if it was dead. I think it was unethical for your company to even sell it the last year.
I agree with bones97. When my company only at the end of last month renewed licenses, I for one will not recommend purchasing licenses from Parallels in the future.
