For the last few beta releases of Parallels, the NT4 video driver hasn't been working. I tried to downgrade back to a working release to figure out when it started to not work and haven't had much success. I think Build 1970 worked fine.

The video is set to the default 640x480x16colors. I am currently running 3120 RC1 (tried uninstalling/reinstalling). I also tried uninstalling the Parallels Tools and installing it. When the image mounts as the CD-ROM drive, I thought it used to autostart the installation and it doesn't now. I can go to the CD drive and run the PRLTOOLS.EXE file and the installation will start, but I get an error message of "UseDLL Failed. Couldn't Load VMLBINST.DLL file".

Also, I have tried to manually install the video drivers by browsing the CD image and the driver install appears to work, but after the reboot, the video hasn't changed.

The NT4 installation is at Service Pack 6. It is running on a Mac Pro 2.66 with 5GB RAM. All the other virtual machines I have been working with seem to work fine.

Does anyone have any suggestions for what I might be doing wrong? I submitted a support ticket near the end of last month as an FYI to Parallels support that NT4 doesn't appear to be working correctly, but I haven't heard anything back and I haven't seen any other forums posts about this problem.

Reply to my own post ... NT4 Parallels Tools Not Working

I have an update to the Parallels Tools not working with Windows NT4 .. specifically the video driver. Up to yesterday, I was working with existing NT4 installations.

I started working with making ISO images of the Installation CDs I work with, and I got down to NT4 and decided to make the images .. and then also create a new installation. The video worked almost immediately - after installing the Parallels Tools.

So it looks like something gets messed up with upgrading the drivers from one release to another. But the video does work with clean installation.
