Hi, I tried to migrate my dos application that runs on novell client 3.21 but failed.

I have no way to load the novell driver. After calling up Realtek HQ at Taipei, they passed me some files which can't be found on the internet. They claimed that that's the oldest files they have on hand and it may work with novell 3.21.

I am just curious, would realtek be responsible for such support or parallels instead?

I really hope that the Parallels team could at least give me an answer, even if it doesn't support. At least I could move on.

Thanks so much for your help!

There have been scribings in the past about 8029 drivers, and Parallels has never indicated that they have any drivers at hand. I would suggest that Realtek is your best avenue for 8029 drivers.

bare in mind that novell 3.21 is a more than 13 years kind of technologies, I am wondering, if Parallels has no support for the virtual ethernet card, couldn't they use something else?

The drivers given by Realtek Taipei HQ doesn't work. They even passed me some diagnostic tool which hang the dos programme halfway. I think those tools are not meant for virtual ethernet card. I have spoken to them personally in Mandarin. My concern is, shall Realtek be solely responsible for this support? I hope Parallels could advice me before I start calling Realtek Taipei HQ for help again.

There has also been talk about a different nic being virtualised. Specifically a newer Realtek, like the 8039. This is very likely to come in the next major version, due Q1 2007. At the moment, you will have to content yourself with the knowledge that your Mandarin is getting some real life exercise.

I am a chinese that's why I can communicate with the without problem. What I wanted to stress here was, even with proper communication, nothing can be done. and you're telling me to be contented? frankly speaking, I doubt a newer NIC could even support the old enough novell 3.21 in dos.

I seriously hope some technical staffs could give me a yes or no answer. constant, I think you can contribute better in other threads.

You seem to be hoping that Parallels can offer some magic wand, that Realtek themselves cannot offer.

Have you tried communicating with Novell, or perhaps microsoft?

In an attempt to be helpful, I let you know that Parallels will not be able to do what you hope. They like me doing this, as it saves them time. Time they can spend developing product.

You feel free to say what you like about me. I'll still try to help.

i really appreciate your help and those who are just like you, because I am just like you too.

However, this is just what I noticed, you tend to give very general answer for questions you're not so sure about. Perhaps you shall stop doing that. No offense.

I can always switch to VMware or use a physical hardware to solve my problem, if Parallels team feels that my case is 1 out of a million kind....i won't blame them. I just need them to tell me a "yes" or "no". It's quite dissapointing to see absolutely no response.

Parallels want these forums to be community driven. To the full of this ideal, they would make no responses at all.

Your getting satisfactory responses from me. So there is a very limited chance that Parallels personell will take the time to say the same thing.

They do not offer support for any of the hardware they virtualise.
