    Hey,
Im using a MacBook, Parallel build 3188, Windows XP SP2 and I cannot get sound to work. Ive added some attachments to show what I am getting.

All I have for "Output Device" in my sound configuration is Default Audio and Null Device. I see some people on the forum have said they have a loopback option but I do not see that. Im wondering if this has something to do with my issue?

Does anyone have idea ideas on how I can get this fixed?

    Thanks.

    Hey Ankou,
Yes I have installed the Parallel tools. Also during the tools installation I choose the complete option so that everything would of been installed.

I dont know if this helps any but I also have tried VMWare Fusion and that did not pick up my sound either. (Tried VMWare Fusion after I could not get parallels sound working).

zenox, go to Apple menu->System Preferences->Sound->Output tab and select "internal speakers by default"
If it doesn`t work, in Windows go to Device Manager->Sound, media and game controllers and search for AC97 device.
If you haven`t such device, please, do the screenshot and place it in this thread.

    Hey,
Im not sure exactly what you mean by "search for AC97 device". Did you mean try and update the driver or did you just want to see if the device existed underneath the sound category? Eitherway I tried to update the driver and it said it couldnt find any corrent drivers. I also grabbed a screenshot of my device manager with the sound category expanded.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

Strange bug, try to install sound driver manually: on Mac side go to Parallels->Configuration. In CD/DVD-ROM Options choose "Use image file" and specify path (path: Mackintosh HD->Library->Tools->vmtools.iso) to the file using browse ("...") button below to locate image file.
Then, in Windows, go to Device Manager and try to install driver for Multimedia Audio Controller. During installation specify path to the wizard: CD-ROM->Driver->SOUND

    Hey Ankou,
I tried what you said but I couldnt get very far through it. In the CD/Driver/Sound directory their is only an OS2 folder which has a .sys file (and windows of course requires a .inf as well as a sys). So I read the readme.1st in the OS2 folder and googled on the name of the driver. This lead me here:

    http://www.softwarepatch.com/utilities/viaac97.html

I downloaded the drivers for windows and installed them.
    Now my sound works perfect.

Thanks for all the help. Hopefully this post will be able to help anyone else who may get stuck on this situation.
