I think there's a pb with the installation of PArallels tools.
I can't use coherence mode, and when I try to access the shared folder, an error message appears :"//.psf couldn't be found" or sthg like that (in french).
In parallels desktop VM configuration, however, these 2 option are checked, and as parallels tools is installed (I reinstalled them several times) i thought it should work...
On the VM, i've had a look at parallels tools center :
in the list of tools, there are
Clipboard sync, Time sync" -> work fine
    "Video drvier"-> disabled
"mouse sync" -> disabled, and can't be activated
    (..)
"Shared folder" -> Enabled, but as said before, won't work. //.psf not found

In the list, there is no mention of coherence. But in the parallels tools folder, there is a "cohrence.exe" file.
I tried the command line 'cd:\\program files\parallels\parallels tools\cohrence.exe" install, but that didn't change anything.

Could it all be a pb linked to my windows installation ?
I'm using boot camp partition and a customized version of windows.

I'll be glad to hear any suggestion !!

Have you tried un-installing, restarting EVERYTHING, then re-installing, the restart everything again?

I actually meant the tools, but it sounds like you have done those as well, correct?

Try installing tools in safe mode.

Yes, sometimes you do have to resort to re-installing the tools from safe mode. ( F8 or fn+F8 or Apple+F8 )

Hugh Watkins : where can I find this « menu » you're talking about ?
In the configuration editor, i set 2 shared folders, and checked the 2 options "enable sharing for drag-and-drop local & global...."

the "menu" is the OSX menu bar, usually at the top of your screen... (where the Apple symbol is)

all right... :) i mean, in parallels desktop menu, there is no "Devices" item... (about, preferences, services, hide & quit items only)

by the way, i tried once again to install the parallels tools, in safe mode, but still coherence and shared folders won't work :( :(

Go about three or four menus to the right of that.

Are you using Zone Alarm, or some other thisrd party security program. These have been known to interfere with Coherence mode. If so then try disabling.

yes, i've read things about interference w. security programs... i uninstalled them, and installed the Kaserpersky security tools... with no luck.
    well i must be cursed :D :D

and about the menu : i finally found it. Wow. How could i miss it ? hehe...
anyway, I tried to add other folders, i uninstalled-reinstalled Parallels Desktop (3188) but no change, nowhere.

Can it be linked to the fact i use a boot camp partition ?
What is //.psf ? Should there be a file with that name ?

    Hi,

To fix the problem please do the following:

    1. Run your VM.
    2. Open Add/Remove Programs control panel in Windows.
    3. Remove Parallels Tools center.
    4. Reboot Windows.
    5. Install Parallels Tools using Install Parallels Tools.. menu item in the Action menu of Parallels Desktop application.
    6. Reboot Windows.

    Best regards,
    Alexander

Well, that's what i did several times, even after reinstalling the whole parallels desktop app on the mac side. :( Can it be a pb with the guest OS instalation ? i mean, something wrong with any windows file ?

    huhu....
    created a new VM...
    installed windows...
still no coherence mode, and no shared folder either :'(

Maybe sthg in Mac OS is preventing the whole thing to work correctly ? Isn't it strange that these 2 options won't work on any VM, even after clean installation or full reinstallation of windows / parallels desktop / parallels tools ?

they work for me as they should (since JUne 2006)

I am fussy about windows house keeping
    using utilities firwalls ante virus

I like google maps and wanted to play with http://www.live.com/?mkt=en-gb

    and http://maps.live.com/ 3D maps

so inspite of being a google tool bar etc fan I installed the windows live tool bar as well
which has a yellow shield icon for Windows live care advisor

"Check your PC health for free
Welcome to the Windows Live OneCare safety scanner. It’s a free service designed to help ensure the health of your PC.

Check for and remove viruses and spyware
    Improve your PC's performance
Get rid of junk on your hard disk
Use the full service scan to check everything or customize your scan to meet your specific needs."

the first time I ran it it found and fixed more than 250 windows registry errors

on my old WinXp laptop I used the Norton Windows clean up utility at least once a week to do the same

I fear a lot of problems PD gets blamed for are in fact windows errors
so I treat my VM very gently
never suspending - except by accident
I have 2 big screens so don't need to use coherence except tp show a friend

I start the MAc OS and when that settles
    I start the VM

on shut down I often close the Apps manually and close Win XP exactly like any other windows machine before closing the Mac OS and switching off

I have one app FTM 16 which does not like me to close it from the Start menu
it has a dos origin and needs to close its files / datbase correctly
before a windows system shut down

take care and reap the rewards
