After several futile attempts to get Windows 98se to recognize a printer of any sort I throw myself at the mercy of this forum.

In Network Neighborhood I repeatedly get the error message "unable to browse the local network" whenever attempting to find the printer on the Mac OS side. Thus network printing is impossible. I've tried every trick available for connecting the guest OS and the Mac OS (bridged ethernet, host only networking, shared networking) and nothing seems to matter to the guest OS.

On the Mac OS side of things, the parallels host-guest and NAT networks seem to be working fine. In Windows 98se I can access the internet readily if I leave the network adapter set for bridged ethernet with the default or en1:Airport/wireless adapter chosen.

I am assuming the problem might be something in the Windows 98se system but my limited knowledge of the OS coupled with my lesser ability to configure a LAN has apparently reached the limits of my abilities to get this working.

I tried installing the printer directly through USB but was even less succesful there. The Parallels USB tools just lists the Brother multifunction machine as "Composite 04f9:0112" whatever that might be. So if I choose it as a USB device Windows 98se still doesn't recognize it as a printer choice.

Any suggestions appreciated. I just need Parallels to run one financial program and print a handful of paychecks each month. I'd like to get this working on my new Imac so I can get the ancient B+W G3 off my desktop sometime before the New Year.

p.s. If I can get this nut cracked, I'll then tackle getting the numerical keypad working.
