I just switched to Mac. I had no problems getting P7 to image my old Windows computer and create a VM on my iMac with all my Win7 files, folders and applications. I have some questions that a rank newbie would ask. I've looked around for some basic descriptions but haven't found them yet. What's Coherence? I surmise that it's running my windows desktop on top of my Mac desktop. Is that correct? Then what's Crystal? I haven't figured that one out at all. Next up is what is "Modality"? When I first installed the VM I'm sure it asked me if I wanted Windows to be more like the Mac or to keep it separated. I must have selected Like a Mac. Because that seems to be what I have. I saw a KB article that said I could go back and change my choice in the Configure dialog -- but I don't see that choice worded that way in that dialog. What I would like to do is set up my P7 VM to work like Boot Camp without rebooting (I know I can create a boot camp and such and make it run in a VM but that's not what I mean). I want my Mac desktop to have only MAC items showing. As it is now, when I create a new desktop item on my Win7 VM it shows up on my Mac Desktop. And if I delete it from the Mac Desktop it deletes on the Win7 VM desktop. I want my Win7 VM desktop to run Full-Screen on a separate desktop and I want it separate of my Mac desktop just as if I had a Boot Camp install of Win7 that I had to reboot to get to. Does this make sense? Any help is appreciated. Perhaps you could point me to a P7 tutorial of some sort? OH, and one more question - since Parallels made a image of my Windows PC to create the VM on my iMac it shows the Windows HD to be 500 Gigs. when I'm in my Win7 VM. I saw an option to resize the VM partition. Is that all I have to do to resize it to the size I need it to be -- rather than the size of the HD on my old PC?
first - use KB http://kb.parallels.com/en/4670 Second - use KB)) http://kb.parallels.com/en/6857 (but there is no Cristal as it is in PD7 - it used to be separate view mode in PD6) Modality - a view mode when you can see a small windows with your VM running (you have some operation in a progress and try to keep an eye on it and work in Mac at the same time) To separate Desktops - open Virtual Machine menu > Configure > Options > Sharing > share folders > Custom folder OR Security > Isolate Windows from Mac (to isolate it completley - no file sharing, no drag n drop etc. to resize virtual HD - go to Configure > Hardware > Hard Drive > Compress.
