EDIT: Never mind (how do you delete a post?) - figured out how to fix the DHCP thing and now have internet access again in XP.
All of a sudden today I couldn't load XP (3188/bootcamp) - I would get a can't attach network adaptor "unknown" or something like that. So looked around in the forum and saw a post about deleting the network adaptor and then adding a new one in.
1. Did that and then the option to use shared networking was greyed out.
2. Went into Sysprefs/sharing/internet and saw sharing was stopped (although I think that was what I was using before), so I started it and clicked all three ports on (built-in, en2, and en3). Created a network adaptor for the profile using shared networking..
3. When I started XP it loaded up now, but got a parallels message that shared internet with parallels NAT adaptor would cause problems, and to uncheck the en3 port. So did that.
4. Now I can load up but get no internet access - it shows the adaptor with the exclamation point thing (restricted access or something like that).
5. Checked Sysprefs/Network - the parallels NAT is set to use PPP to configure IPv4 for some reason - tried to change it to use DHCP (as parallels host-guest is doing) but there is no option for it - only ppp or manual is listed in the drop-down box.
I haven't tried to uninstall and reinstall parallels yet (which may or may not fix all this), only because I'm afraid I'll have it screw up my XP activation just like it did before.
