I’m running the latest build of Parallels on a MacBook Pro (10.4.6, 2GB Ram), and have been trying to get Win 2000 installed and running. I am concerned that I may have a bogus Win2k cd, (bought it as a stand alone CD with the reg. key from eDirect software), or that my actions thus far have caused other problems. Here is the story so far: Install 1: Initial install seems to go well. In order to get onto my work network I need to get the guest OS up to service pack 4, so I borrow a static ip from one of my registered PCs that is off the network and get online. I get to service pack 3 and things seem to be running great. I then install the Parallels tools, as the 640x480 resolution is driving me nuts. I then go back on line and begin the install of service pack 4. It hangs and I can’t get anything to work. I decide to stop the VM and see what happens when I start it again. This takes me into a boot sequence hell loop where Win2k tries to boot up but then some sort of error screen flickers by, too fast to read, and the whole boot process begins again. I stop the VM and then delete the VM using the wizard. Install 2: I get to the point where Win2k boots up, I enter in my registration code, time zone, and then get to the network settings questions. After choosing to not be part of a workgroup, the Win2k cd spins up, the VM reboots and then I enter the Win2k finishing installation loop from hell where the same process begins again asking me for the registration code etc. Any ideas on how to proceed next would be most appreciated.
solution found Well, I gave up and just uninstalled parallels and started from scratch. Seems to run fine now and the update to SP4 worked this time.
