Hi, I've got a new 2 Ghz Dual Core Intel Macbook running Windows XP SP2 via Parallels 4.0 and I'm trying to play Myst V. The Myst V installer installed DirectX 9 and I've got Parallels optimized for 3d hardware acceleration and I ratcheted down the video options in game, but it is still running very slowly. I understand that the game is not currently in the list of officially test games, but I was wondering if there might be any suggestions anyone has out there in how to go about investigating the problem. Thanks.
The first suggestion is to uninstall DirectX incompatible with Parallels virtual video adapter, then reinstall Parallels Tools. Parallels Tools package contains all needed recompiled DirectX libraries.
Uninstall DirectX? It wouldn't be permissible to just to reinstall Parallels tools? I do have a snapshot made before the install, so now I'm trying to gauge whether or not to just go back to that snapshot, or use whatever hacky method I need to use to uninstall DirectX..
Click Start -> Run -> type "regedit" and hit Enter-> delete this key -- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DirectX. Then restart Windows and reinstall Parallels Tools.
Thanks. I decided to just step back to a previous snapshot as I hadn't gone to far beyond the Myst install. It is running much more smoothly. Not as smoothly as I hoped but definitely playable at this point.
