I was testing games which did not mention direct X in their hardware requirements, and discovered too late that some of them did. I have been trying to uninstall directx with little success. I have tried 3 pieces of software which claim to do it but none of them has run correctly. My windows has been transported from a barely working laptop, and attempting to "retransport" is very unlikely to work. It took 5 attempts last time (I wound up blowing 2 cans of canned air over the processor heat sink to keep it going long enough. (Emachines 5310. There's a big lawsuit settlement if you have one BTW) I really don't want to go through that hell again. I sit possible to successfully get directX 8.1 off a WinXP install? Also: I think I read somewhere here that you can get anything up to directx 7 to work. don't quote me though. might and magic VI takes directx 5 and I'm pretty sure that it should run if this is correct. Can anyone confirm this?
