Getting a new iMac and want to move my Windows XP/Parallels off the old Mac to a new Windows 10 laptop vs. moving it to the new iMac. I'm assuming upgrade to Parallels 11 on the old Mac first. How would I then transfer all the Windows files (realize the programs won't transfer) to the new Windows 10 PC?
Hello BrionL, You can upgrade Parallels Desktop 11 on your old Mac if the OSX version in it is 10.9.5 or more than that and then you can move the files from your XP virtual machine files to the new Windows 10 virtual machine by using an external hard disk. Also as you know that the programs can not be transferred and you'll have to install them separately. The only way to have the files transferred is by using an external drive and then moving them from the first Windows virtual machine to the second one.
The new machine would not be virtual machine but a Windows 10 Laptop. I'm guessing there is virtually no difference (sorry). Basically a $200 storage machine for my old Windows files. Would DropBox serve as an "external drive"?
