    Hi,

I'm running OS X 10.4.9 on a Mac Book Pro, with Vista Business running via Parallels (build #3188) and I'm experiencing odd mouse behavior under Parallels.

Web pages do not recognize mouse-over behavior or activate hover attributes.

Photoshop freezes the mouse-pointer using certain tools (e.g. selection or text tool) but not others.

Also, though I disabled "ignore accidental trackpad input" under OS X, Widows Vista is still acting as though this was enabled (it was during the time of install; I changed it after).

None of these happen on pure Vista (Business), just under the VM.

Any help with these issues would be very much appreciated,

    Rene

Are you running coherence, OS Window, or Full Screen? Or does it act the same for it all?

Did you try un-installing then re-installing your tools?

Sorry, it only happens in full screen mode. So far, both OS window and coherence work fine.

    I haven't tried to un/re-install tools, perhaps I should?

I have noticed this a lot in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop on Windows XP SP2. I thought it might be the key combinations that give or remove the mouse focus to the guest OS. So, I remapped those keys to something silly like ctrl + alt + 9, but that didn't help. I'm not sure if it's a specific key combination that triggers it, or if it's something the Adobe apps are doing to the cursor, but it sucks. I also haven't found an easy way to get it back, either, short of restarting Windows. And yet, sometimes it will come back on its own.

edit: This happens in Coherence mode with start menu and without start menu, both.

Rener: Go ahead and try un-installing and re-installing the tools. Have you tried using a normal mouse? I don't see this making a difference, but who knows...

Kraken: Does this only happen to you in Coherence mode? What is your system set-up?

edit: I have only seen it in Coherence, but I haven't really done any work in either windowed or fullscreen modes yet. Coherence is exactly what I need.

Intel Mac Pro tower 2.6 GHz with OSX 10.4.9 and 2GB RAM. I'm the lone mac in a sea of PCs and I'm currently serving Apache from OSX and IIS from the Windows VM. The crazy thing about it is the reason I'm running the Adobe apps under Windows in the first place is because they run so slow on the Mac because they're not UB. Once CS3 comes out, this won't be such a problem and I'll be doing all my graphical junk on the mac and all the coding on the guest OS...

[Edited: Have now completed un/re-install and the mouse-over/hover problem remains the same)

FWIW - I've tried it with both the trackpad and with a wacom intuous3 tablet, and (in full screen mode) they both have the problem (no problem with either in os window or coherence).

Kraken: eee. That sounds rough. I don't get that issue, haven't encountered it yet... Try toggeling between modes when you lose focus...

Rener: That sounds tough, sorry I don't have ideas at this point... Sounds like it is time for Parallels Support or an experienced forum member (dkp?) to step in...

Thanks, I've written support! Hopefully I can figure this out :)

glad to know it's not just me :) I'll try toggling modes the next time it happens and hopefully we'll hear back from support. Thanks, everyone.

I did want to say that after testing a few times, switching to windowed mode then back to coherence seems to fix it.

It sounds like the mouse is not re-focusing correctly. But we will just have to wait for Parallels to turn their attention to this.

Can you please give us an exact sequence of actions to make the cursor "freeze"? The issue you describe is a known one, but is quite rare to reproduce and thus to provide any suggestions regarding it. I use Parallels Desktop 24x7 on my Mac and saw it just once since upgrading from 1970.

I managed to lose the mouse altogether, by using the Devices menu, and telling it that I was using an Apple extended Keyboard and an infrared mouse (both true). Thereafter the cursor never moved. By random movement and right-clicking, so I could see where I was, I could get around the screen. I could even by guesswork activate the shutdown button, but there was no way I could actually click the confirming button to shut it down. In the end I had to crash the entire computer.

Now I cannot use the Fkeys any longer, which were working before.

I can't work out how to talk to Parallels about it either: contact is not working. I can't register that is not working either.

I believe it has something to do with copy and paste or fonts. It seems to happen most when I'm trying to copy from PC to Mac or edit some text within illustrator. I'll try to narrow it down as to when it happens.

It happens any time I run parallels under "full screen" mode. I then launch Photoshop CS2, open a document, and begin to work. Any time I use certain tools, like the selection/mask tool (I'll go through and test each one tomorrow), as soon as I click the mouse down to use the tool, the cursor will "freeze" (not move) until I release the tool, or in some cases disappear and "stutter" on and of until I release the tool. It basically becomes unusable for precision work, so I've stuck with window or coherence mode.

    Thanks for the attention!

Sorry, did you want more precise info for the mouse-over in web browsers behavior? That one is pretty simple. In "full screen" mode, it doesn't recognize the CSS :hover behavior. Works find under window or coherence mode as well.
