May be a silly Q, but what is a VGA card, is it just PC terminoligy for a graphics card, or perhaps a graphics card with a VGA output or even something else.

Thing is, I bought a cheap usb cam to try with parallels, it doesn't work, but I can't be sure if it's the USB thing with parallels or whether I don't have a VGA (whatever it is) card, since the box says I need one.

VGA stands for Video Graphics Array, which was one of the long list of graphics cards standards that popped up in the early era of PCs. It was able to do 640x480 resolution with 16 colours. However, the name stuck around to become synonymous with graphics card in many cases, despite the fact that, after the VGA, there were SVGA (Super VGA; 800x600) and XGA (1024x768) standards.

All current PC graphics card is capable of VGA resolution (640x480), so the error doesn't entirely make sense, except that PW just may not be properly supporting the USB webcam there.

Paralells supports VGA-compatible graphic card - so it should be OK from that point.
