This may be a small issue, but is somewhat annoying and hope someone may know a solution. We are planning to upgrade all our Parallels Desktop 6 to 7, and are currently testing 7 on a few of our Mac. Everything seems running ok but one of our users has discovered a small bug. Our Mac systems are Mac Pro running OSX 10.6.8 and the guest OS is Win 7 SP1. To allow our users to conveniently open the applications from their guest OS (Win 7), we usually keep the application icon/short on the OSX Dock. The Dock works fine, but since we upgraded to Parallels 7, our users found that the indicator dot that usually shown under the icon on the Dock to indicate which application is running, is no longer showing for all the Windows applications. Mac applications are fine, and machine with Parallels 6 are still fine. I don't really now how to call that indicator dot on the Dock, so I have attached a screen shot. The applications still opens and work, however sometimes user minimized an application and forgot he/she had it opened, which can be quite annoying to them. Here is the information for our systems- Host system: Mac Pro OSX 10.6.8 Guest system: Win 7 SP1 64bit Parallels version: Parallels Desktop build 7.0.14922 Thanks in advance.
Same Problem I am also having this problem after upgrading to Parallels 7. The dot isn't so much a problem as that the programs missing a dot are no longer available to switch to using command+tab. I have to click on the icon in the dock to bring them to the top. This is only happening with programs running through a virtual machine, and not all of them at that.
Same here. Contrary to miles60's experience, Windows applications are available for Command-Tab-Switching.
Same problem Also using Mac OS 10.6.8, and Parallels 7 (7.0.14922.693916) running Win7 SP1 32-bit in Bootcamp VM. Annoying. One example: I use Coherence and like to shut down all my apps before shutting down Windows. Those indicators speed up the shutdown. Another problem: In Parallels 6 in Coherence, if I remember correctly, clicking on a Windows app will switch the normal app menu in the Apple menu bar to "Parallels", which allows selecting "About Parallels", among many other options. In Parallels 7, I can never see a "Parallels" app menu while in Coherence, only in a windowed mode. Is this expected behavior? (If so, I prefer the old way.) Thanks, John
Workaround The only workaround I've found was to uncheck "Keep in Dock" to show the indicator and then check it again. Seems to work for everything, except for Windows Explorer, which only has a "Remove from Dock". Not a huge deal, but extremely annoying.
Thanks MyongC for posting the workaround. That works, but still doesn't fix the annoyance. Now users complain that because they don't see the dot on the icon, they forgot which application they have opened and the virtual machine keeps prompting error messages about forcing the application to close whenever they quit Parallels. Has anyone from Parallels looked into this issue yet? Thanks.
