Microsoft Word not saving files

Any attempt to save a file gives an error '\\.psf\Home\Desktop\filename.docx' is currently in use. Try again later.

A blank file is saved in the location, and the dialog box opens again to allow you to save to a different location. The error then repeats itself continuously.

Cannot save any files from Word at this point, unless I save to the virtual directories and move the files to the Mac side. Why is this?? Any idea??
