I have WinXP installed on Parallels v3 on a Macbook Pro 4GB RAM running OS X 10.5.5. For most things, all is normal and works great. I have an occasional problem where menus in an application "pull down" and will not clear and no selection can be made. For most applications, when this occurs all I need to do is exit and restart the application. This behavior is very occasional except for one application called Memory Manager from Creative Memories. It is a database application designed for tracking and organizing digital photos and other assets, primarily for someone doing scrap booking activities.

Memory Manager worked fine the first few times it ran, but now anytime I click on a program menu, the drop down appears and will not go away or let me select anything. I tried running the uninstaller and then reinstalling, but that does not help. Any ideas? Are there any Parallels Preference files I might want to delete and let Parallels recreate. At this point all I can think to do is reinstall WinXP, but that is a major task.

I will give this a try. When I reinstall Parallels, it will be from the retail CD. I assume this means that I need to then install all updates and reinstall the Parallels Tools and any other extra software. Is this correct?

Context right-click menus not correctly dismissing

The same problem (sticky context menus that don't disappear when clicking outside of the context menu or when selecting an option from the menu) still exists with Creative Memories Memory Manager 3.0 and StoryBook Creator Plus 3.0 running Windows XP in Parallels Desktop 5 for Mac, all with latest updates applied. The problem occurs when in Coherence or Crystal mode, but does NOT occur in Window or Full Screen mode. Confirmed on two different computers with same versions of software. Thus, it appears to be a Parallels bug not an install problem.

It has been a long time, but I think doing the complete uninstall and reinstall using the latest build at the time fixed the problem for me. I am now using Parallels 5 and latest Memory Manage and Storybook Creator with no problems. Actually it is my wife using them, but the point is the context menu sticking has gone away. Maybe you need a complete reinstall. I would suggest starting a new Post in these forums with a link back to this one for reference. Maybe a Parallels Team member can send you a link to a current build to save you having to go through the updates process. It might just be available on the site, I have not looked.
