I've been using XP on Parallels for about seven months and I'm now on Build 5160. When I installed Parallels originally, I took the sissy route and let the Wizard do everything. (I'm not using Boot Camp. This is all on my Mac's hard drive.) I use my virtual machine daily for work, and otherwise don't run it. Things have worked well. Still, it seems to me it's taking XP longer to load, and particularly long to quit. My virtual machine folder for XP, in my documents folder, shows at 16 GB. (I have two Parallels snapshots, which I created just in case I ever hit a real issue.)

My question: Is there some routine maintenance I should be doing? If so, what?

I've read about a lot of problems using the compression mode of Parallels, but of course, it's usually people who experience problems who post, so that may be misleading.

I'd be grateful for any insight, advice, and even for what things NOT to do. Parallels is a critical app for me, and I need it to always work as well as possible.

Oh. I'm on Tiger (10.4.11), and my machine is a white Intel two-core duo iMac with 3 GB of memory and a 230 GB hard drive.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
