Hey All, My company runs an apparel software that must run in windows. The database is a sql database on a server on the company domain. Each client has a mapped drive to the server. I am the only one in the company running a macbook pro with el capitan. Installed is Parallels Desktop 11 for Mac and Windows 10. The apparel software will map in windows 10 inside parallels and will run fine as long as I am simply opening menus or viewing records. But if I change, add, or delete a record, the apparel software will hang and not respond. Of course our apparel software supplier will not even begin to entertain helping us because a mac is involved, so I am looking for someone who could possibly help me figure this out and make it work. Without fail, System Logs throw the DCOM error 10016 when the apparel software locks up. It can be replicated over and over. I really think its a simple fix for someone, just not me! Thanks in advance for anyone that can help me resolve this and get me running!
Hi ChrisM10, Parallels Desktop allows installing an operating system (e.g. Windows, Linux) on the virtual hardware. This operating system would operate in most cases the same way as if it had been installed on a regular PC. It means all the third party software you install inside your virtual machine is supposed to operate the same way as on a real PC. Perform the steps outlined at our knowledge base article for troubleshooting third-party software issues & let us know how it works. Thanks, Dhana.
Hi Chris, I was wondering if you would be kind enough to let me know if you were able to work this out. I'm curious because I am looking at using Parallels so that I can run a custom windows based order entry software on my mac. It sounds like that is what you are doing and having difficulties so whether or not you were able to get this fixed may help me decide if I should move forward with this purchase. Thank you, Julie
Hello @Julie3 Thank you for your interest towards Parallels Desktop. Here is how you can get the trial version of Parallels Desktop 11 for Mac which is valid for 14 days. Once the trial version is installed, get the 90-day pre-configured test Windows virtual machines & please isolate Windows from Mac and install the Windows based software
@Julie3 I have not been successful and my apologies for such a late response. I am back on this issue now so hopefully I can find a solution. Did you try @Guna@Parallels suggestion and did it work or not?
OK everyone the suggestions thus far haven't worked. I spoke with my third party software group and determined that the software works fine communicating with the sql server as long as its one table in sql. But if I am doing an edit of a record in a menu that has multiple tables and headers in sql, then it locks up. I can force close the application and replicate almost 100% the DCOM error 10016 in windows 10 within parallels. Your continued support and help with this is hugely appreciated! thanks in advance!
I would really really appreciate some help with this from someone who has experience in connecting macbookpros to windows sql servers and small business servers. Im almost completely confident that this is a permissions error somehow since the sql database resided on a windows server. As I said in my previous post, for the most part, the third party software works. However when updating records that have multiple tables and headers in sql it acts like we loose communication and the particular screen Im working in is never refocused. Again I would really appreciate help with this. I think it will benefit others as well, thanks!
This Post was never resolved. I have since tried parallels with Windows 7 and still get the same issues. @Guna@Parallels The very reason I purchased Parallels months ago and still can't run my windows software correctly.
