I would like to switch from my current MBP 13" with Intel quad-core i7 to the new MBP 14" with M1 Pro. However I am not sure if the base model with 8 cores would be sufficient, or if I should opt for 10 cores. My biggest concern is fan noise as I am mainly using MS Office and video calls (Teams) within the Parallels VM. With my Intel MBP the fans turn on and get very loud immediately once I switch on the camera, which is quite distracting. Does anybody have experience or recommendations, are you experiencing fan noise with Teams video calls with the 8 core or 10 core M1 Pro machines? Thanks in advance for your feedback! Greg
Your mom's iMac from 2015 can handle those apps Also, those apps are available for MacOS, why run the VM. Also, no camera support as of 2022-04-12 "USB and camera sharing are also missing in macOS Monterey VM running on a Mac with Apple M1 chips so far", support article: https://kb.parallels.com/125561
Hi, many thanks for your feedback! I didn't know there were such limitations on M1 Macs. https://kb.parallels.com/128867 mentions a couple of them, including shared folders, which I use a lot. So basically the M1 is not yet an option for me until a few of these limitations are resolved, thanks for pointing these out! My initial question was about the fan noise when using Teams in a Windows VM, these are very noisy on my current Intel MacBook Pro and cause distraction. I am running a Windows VM for my work and have to attend and organize a lot of Teams meetings with screen share, seems that this is not yet possible on the M1 Macs.
