I just went to remove a user, where I had installed XP in Parallels, and relocated the VM winxp.hdd (my VM name). Now I can not load it. I guess I can't just drag and drop it. Oops... any way to recover it? I don't want it where it was, in a user I am deleting. Thanks RMD
I did this and the HDD shows as non existent in size so i attempt to recreate and get this error; "Error 9 occurred while creating virtual hard disk /Users/Rad/Documents/Parallels/inxp/winxp.hdd. Error description: Bad file descriptor. Virtual disk has not been created!" If I try to create and it says no (happens as well) then cancel attempt to make new HDD I get " Unable to get the geometry of the virtual hard disk. Perhaps file /Users/Rad/Documents/Parallels/winxp/winxp.hdd is not a valid virtual hard disk image file."
I figured it out... all of my Parallels VM files were set to Read only... For those who want to move the .HDD file from one user to another, the permissions may not allow you to access the VM. You can check by following this string: right click on the file and click on Get Info>Ownership & Permissions>Owner make sure your user account is set as the owner, or it is set for all users. Otherwise Parallels will NOT open the VM if you are in an account without full "read and write" permissions.
