After setting up a shared printer using Bonjour for Windows I have suddenly lost my Internet connection. I have checked and rechecked the settings but obviously I am overlooking something. Any help gratefully appreciated-- Thank you, David MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.33 GHz 3GB OS 10.4.8 DSL modem Parallels Desktop Build 1970 Windows XP Pro SP2
Network Adapter Options Device Status X Enabled X Connect cable at startup Emulation X Bridged Ethernet en0: Ethernet Adapter Is this what you mean? Thank you, David
This had three effects: XP slowed to a crawl (Activity Monitor shows cupsd taking up about 50% of the cpu), printing is now disabled and I still can't connect to the Internet. What setup do you have? Thank you, David
I am using shared networking. Before you do anything else, shut down your VM, shut down your MAC, and reboot both.
Thank you for the suggestion--that was one of the first things I did. In case it helps, when I restart the VM I get a message, "Local Area Conection Status: Limited or no connectivity," with an offer to "restart the connection and try to establish full connectivity." Clicking OK on this results in a "Repair Local Area Connection" message, "Windows is taking the following action: Renewing your IP address." After that, the next message is, "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Renewing your IP address. For assistance, contact the person who manages your network." David
Okay, I tried Shared Networking again. This time it didn't slow things down and I can connect to the Internet fine, but printing is disabled. So: Shared Networking = Internet connection, no printing Bridged Ethernet = Printing, no Internet connection Does any of this have to do with the fact that I connect to my printer via ethernet? David
I would try uninstalling Bonjour, and reinstalling now that you have shared networking. Bonjour should work fine for printing to an ethernet attached printer. If this does not work for you, I would suggest reposting this on the Parallels Desktop for Mac Technical Forum. Some of the regulars there are much more knowledgeable about networking than I am.
