    Hi!

I'm experienced with linux and freebsd, but I'm new to macs (and of course to parallels). The problem I'm having is that I need to figure out how to do things that are simple with a regular x86 keyboard when a linux/freebsd virtual machine is running in parallels.

    2 specific problems:
    - To switch vty (normally alt-F* or ctrl-alt-F*), I have to hit ctrl-alt-fn-F*, and I have to hit the keys in that order... There must be a better way?? (the internet says option-F* works, but macosx seems to intercept that and pop me into the control panel... Any advice?)
    - To scroll up thru console output, I typically just hit shift-pageup and shift-pagedown. However, pageup and pagedown can only be accessed by hitting fn-up arrow (or fn-down arrow) on my machine. The best I've found is shift-fn-pageup/down, but again, this requires me to hit all of the keys in that precise order, which is a bit of a pain.

There must be a better way - has anyone else had luck in these areas?

    Thanks in advance!

    Brian

Go to Apple menu->System Preferences, choose "Keyboard and Mouse", hit the "Keyboard" tab, then check the box that says "Use the F1-F12 keys to control software features". At this point the function keys will all work as function keys. To get to their "special" behaviors use fn. Won't help with the page-up/down, though.
