Linked Clones... Dead End?

Hello, I created a Linked Clone VM with the idea that I would have a base VM with a patched Windows copy and I could spin up new VMs as needed. I didn't realize that I am now locked into the original HDD size and can't increase it, either on the original or the linked clone? Is there any way around this? In the future should I just clone the base VM and create a full copy to have more flexibility? It will eat up disk space, but not being able to increase it in the clone is a killer.
