    Kernel Panics in beta4

    Hello guys,

We've made a serious work with recent three betas. Thanks to everyone experiencing kernel panics and sending them to us. They really do help us progress, without you there wouldn't be any beta4 possible.

We do expect beta4 to be much more stable than previous betas. And we badly need your help in hunting for kernel panics left.

If you experience one, please share the logs with us. You'll only need to

    1. Open Applications->Utilities->System Profiler. In System Profiler find Software->Logs->panic.log. This is the file containing necessary technical information about the panic.

    2. And send us the log file as well as the desription of what you were doing that time. Any special actions? Any other info you think might be important?

Please send this staff to [email protected]. Use this mailbox for kernel panic reports only please.

I actually had my first kernal panic with parallels after upgading to beta4. I emailed in the panic log. It happened while XP was downloading and installing updates via automatic updates. This was a VM that I'd built under previous betas, I wonder if there's any reason why beta4 might work better if you build a fresh vm under it?

Anyway, I've done that, built a fresh VM, this time installing Win2K. so far Windows has installed all updates just fine, AVG antivirus, and windows defender from MS. We'll see how this one runs.

I allowed my screen save to go in while at dinner and came back to a spinning beachball over a black screen. The VM was active at the time. Only a power button would seem to get it back.

Actually, the panic I just described happened at about the time XP tries to switch from the startup screen with the animating bar to the resolution the system is configured for.

Tonight I had my first ever kernel panic with any version of PW (currently running Beta 4) at virtually the exact same time of the boot process as you did. I'm running Win2K SP4 as the guest OS. I've e-mailed the panic.log file to the address specified above by Tim.

My mini Core Solo spontaneously rebooted (didn't even show the "you must reboot your computer" kernel panic) last night when I tried to suspend a Win98SE installation with Beta 4. I don't have the computer with me but I will send in the log if it exists.

    Hi

    I got a Panic-Log several times (since Beta4 - never before!!)
Additionally i got freezes of the whole system after some time of parallels usage. its not important what i do. i also got freezes (without any message) if i run parallels without running a VM. At this time i only have a W2K-Prof-machine installed. i couldnt say exactly, but it seems that my system reezes within several minutes (no not after 1 minute). I than have to switch off the whole mac und have to do a new start. One time the mac booted 3 times before he gave me the login-screen.

I have a macbookPro with 2GB of Ram (i checked the ram with memtest - its ok). OSX newest version (german).

    I hope this helps.

    regards Joerg

To follow up on this, no panic.log file was created, presumably because the machine rebooted spontaneously, rather than having the traditional "kernel panic" screen. It hasn't happened since.

Vt-x still won't hardware enable. I have yet to install any OS but I have a VM created. I had the VM open and put my mac to sleep via the Apple Menu.

I too just experienced a spontaneious reboot. I had b4 running when I plugged in an ethernet cable to my MBP for the first time in weeks. Next thing I know, OS X is rebooting.

What log could I send to be helpful?

    1st Kernel Panic

I could feel things were starting to get unstable as Safari would not launch anymore.
After a while, say 10mn, I then got the darkened screen inviting me to reset the machine.

    Here is the log:

    Kernel Panic

I have had several kernel panics which force me to reboot. They sometimes occur when I have PW running without a guest operating system running.
I had wireless networking with beta 3 but lost it with beta 4. My Microsoft wireless mouse and keyboard work fine with the guest OS's
I have tried XP, Fedora, and Fox OS's. No network success with the linux oS's yet

    Killed Spotlight

Well I had a Kernel panic a week ago with Beta 4, and the worst thing is that it killed Spotlight, as in Spotlight wouldn't do any searching anymore, I've even reindexed spotlight to no avail

I also had a sudden reboot while surfing the web in OS X and Windows XP (om a VM) being in the boot phase where I guess it tries to establish the network conection to my OS X share (typical boot delay). My guess is that the spontaneous reboots have something to do with networking.

I have no panic log. My Machine is a 17" iMac on OS X 10.4.6.
